Kids Reading Material # 1

Sooooo, in case you haven't read my blog at all, I'm about to tell you something really important about me.  I am absolutely crazy, madly, deeply in love with books.  And that statement doesn't even come close to how I feel about books.

Now that I'm a mom, I'm crazy, madly, deeply in love with kids books.  I buy kids books more than I buy books for myself.  At the library, I can never say "no, no more books" to Dude, and I always end up carrying a 20 pound bag of kids books home.

I love everything about kids books.  My inner artist is in love with, and finds inspiration in the illustrations.  The themes, the morals, the silliness....love it all.

I love that the kiddos are constantly pulling books off their shelves and crawling into our laps, I love that they will sit and page through their books, I love that I was able to pass on so many of my own kid books to my own kiddos.  Let's face it, it's hard to find the really good, classic Golden Books these days.

Because of all of these things, I'll be starting a Kids Reading Material Series also.  I started an "adult" reading material series that you should definitely check out, and there will be a new one shortly!

The first book I want to talk about, this book that I absolutely totally fell in love with, that Dude loves, and everything about this book is cute?

When Dinosaurs Came with Everything
by: Elise Broach and illustrated by: David Small

I found this book just thumbing through the shelves at our local library.....that was about a month ago.  We keep taking it out!  It's about a boy who is running errands with his mom for the day, and you guessed it: dinosaurs come with everything.  The mom gets frustrated, the boy gets more and more excited and ends up wanting to run more errands.  The mom gets everyone home and has to lie down because of her headache!

Some illustrations?  (Sorry about the poor quality!  I'll get if figured out for future posts!)

Needless to say, this kid was excited!

Then, keeping with the dinosaur theme?
There's this book that we've actually had for a long time:

Dinosaur Roar
by: Paul and Henrietta Strickland

We bought if for the Dude when he was pretty young and we found that it really helped with his vocabulary because this book illustrates so many different things and their opposites.  "Fast & slow", "grumpy & sweet","short & long" to just name a few.  Now Princess loves the book too, it's an all around fun book that you can get your kiddos to interact with.  We would have Dude trace the "very, very long" dinosaur, and of course he loves the end, because I always pretend that I'm gbbling him up, like the dinosaurs are gobbling up their lunch.

Yes, the cover has been abused a little LOL

So that's it for now, for my first kiddos reading material post, I hope you all liked it!  And that you check these books out if you haven't already!  I know what it's like to have a dinosaur lover in the house, and that you pretty much scour all libraries and bookstores for dinosaur books!
Check back soon for a Mothers Day Kids Reading Material!

MHO Mingle # 12

This week's Theme: Pregnancy

1. Have you ever been pregnant? If so, do enjoy being pregnant?
I've been pregnant twice and I LOVED being prego!  Of course, the people around me didn't enjoy it quite so much LOL!  It's been claimed that I was a raging be-yatch.

2. Do you wish to be pregnant?
I would love to have another baby with S <3

3. What do you think is the worst part of pregnancy?
Ahhhhh...definitely the hormones.  During my first pregnancy S was deployed and we were going through a rough spell, so that sucked.  And my second pregnancy I was chasing after a toddler, so things were rough there too.

4. What is the best part of pregnancy?
The bond, the changing body, the feeling of them moving, the cravings, having S cuddle my belly.

5. What advice would you give those who have never been pregnant? If you haven't been pregnant what question would you ask for those who have been pregnant?
Advice? Pregnancy is what it is.  You have to know going into it, that your body is going to change and completely take over your life.  Enjoy it, not all women get to experience it.  And remember, that in the end, you won't care about all of the things that happened to you while you were pregnant :)
I promise you that you'll forget it all as soon as you hold your baby :)

prego with Dude
prego with Princess, Dude was "playing with her" <3

I was nominated for a Liebster Award!!

"The Liebster Award is bestowed to up and coming bloggers with less than 200 followers. There are no judges and each person nominated is a winner! It is an award that fellow bloggers nominate to each other to offer recognition and support. According to Google translate, Liebster means ‘dearest’ in German. This means that the Liebster blog award is acknowledging the dearest bloggers out there who may not have millions and trillions of followers, but still deserve recognition for all of their hard work." Source

I got nominated for a Liebster Award by Quana at The Accidental Military Wife !!
What a sweetheart!

So here goes....

Here are the rules/guidelines:
  1. List 11 random or interesting facts about yourself.
  2. Answer 11 questions from the blogger who nominated you.
  3. Nominate 11 bloggers who have less than 200 followers.
  4. Ask 11 new questions to the bloggers you have nominated.
  5. Notify the bloggers you have nominated that they have been awarded the Liebster Award.
  6. Thank the blogger who nominated you.  Thank You Quana!!

11 Random facts about me:

 - I hate touching worms, will. not. do. it.  I'm impressed that my 3 year old son will put his own worm on his fish-hook.

 - I just started doing the Ripped in 30 workout from Jillian Michaels, and I already have a love/hate relationship with it.

 - I'm not that great with computers, but I'm getting it figured out.

 - I find it absolutely absurd that I have wrinkles/laugh lines & acne at almost 31.

 - I have probably a million freckles on my back....but not really any where else.

 - I find hypocrites despicable.

 - Sometimes I look at my bookshelves, which are full to bursting, and still can't find a single thing I want to read...unfortunately this also happens to me at the library.

 - The thought of my kiddos going off to school sends me into a panic attack.

 - I have a habit of crossing my pinky toes over my "ring" toes....seriously.  It kind of unnerves S, because let's face it, it's a little weird, but it's actually a very comfortable position.

 - I'm pretty annoyed that S introduced Dude to "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers."

 - I had my nose pierced for a while.

11 questions from Quana:
  1. What made you to start a blog? Because it just seemed more convenient at the time than a "diary"
  2. Name three blogs that you love to read. People I Want to Punch in the Throat , I like beer and babies , & Life After I "Dew"
  3. Which celebrity’s style do you admire the most? Ehhhhhh, this one is hard for me....I don't really think that there is one....
  4. Which fashion trend do you dislike the most? Skinny jeans
  5. Which fashion trends are you most interested in trying? Although it may be behind the fashion times, I love slouchy neck shirts that show off one shoulder....but still haven't found one that I have wanted to really buy...
  6. Name two of your favorite places to shop. Kohl's & Target
  7. If you weren’t a fashion/style blogger, what other topics would you blog about? Well, I'm not a fashion blogger and I laugh at the thought of me ever being one.  What would I write about if I didn't write about my kiddos and my life with them?  I guess I would do a spin on Pins that I've tried out...you know, the ones that go horribly wrong LOL!
  8. What is your favorite dish to make? Anything in the crokpot!!  The easiness factor you know?   :P
  9. Which movie do you enjoy for fashion inspiration? LOL!  This is another one that I can't really answer, I don't look to movies for fashion.  Do I find outfits that I love in movies?  Sure.  But when it comes down to it, I just wear what's comfortable....jeans, t's, flip flops.
  10. What is our best fashion advice for someone trying to redefine his or her style on a budget? Don't be afraid to look into thrift shops.  Remember that the price of the item isn't anywhere near as important than if it is comfortable.
  11. What is your best advice to newbie bloggers?  Don't get discouraged, find something that you enjoy writing about, this helps with writers block!  If you always have crazy things happening to you and your famiy, run with it!  Find your own voice, and for Heavens Sake, DO NOT pretend to be someone that you're not!!  This is annoying!  Do not try to make yourself look like a martyr, or try to make yourself just look good.  This is annoying!  Write from the heart and it will show.

      So What Wednesday
Head on over the Shannons Life After I "Dew" to link up to this awesome blog hop!
      This week....?
So WHAT if...S and I watched "Anchorman - The Legend of Ron Burgundy" last night?  You all know that it's ridiculously funny - and you know you want to watch it now too.
So WHAT if...my coffee consumption has gone down?  I used to drink a pot a day...I'm not really sure what has happened so that I'm only drinking maybe 2 cups a day, but it's ok.
So WHAT if...I'm craving a banana/peanut butter smoothie?
So WHAT if...I'm making smoothies every day because I'm ridiculously excited about having bought a new blender?
So WHAT if...S and I are talking about me going back to school?  :D
So WHAT if...our landlord would like to have the rent early?  We got it!
So WHAT if...I've been neglecting my Etsy business a little bit?  Actually, no, that's not a "so what".  I need to get on top of that shizz.
So WHAT if...there are still things that I need to add to my blog, things I have to do to pretty it up a little bit more?  Sometimes, there's more important things to do.
So WHAT if...I have an obsession with jackets and ballet flats?
So WHAT if...I could sit for hours and watch Tom & Jerry (the old shows) with Dude?
So WHAT if...when S and I talk about buying a house, we usually talk about a dishwasher as being one of our first purchases!
      That's it for now...
I have some other things that I need to get done this rainy Wednesday morning!
I hope everyone has wonderful week!

S will even put on movies specifially for me because he knows I like Christian Bale

      Yes, Jeremy Renner.

Peeing - Escapades and an Annoyance

Anyone who has a toddler son knows that all things "peeing" can be interesting.  I've been told that it's the same with toddler girls...but since Princess is still in diapers and nowhere near potty training, I don't have any funny peeing stories about her.....well maybe one.

But the Dude?  Oh this kid has given me lots of funny stories for the telling.

Are there pictures that I would love to share with you about these escapades?  Most definitely!  But there's no way that I'm posting those kinds of pictures on here...you'll have to use your imagination.

The Dude was awesome with potty training and caught on real quick since we took away diapers cold turkey.  The funniest thing about Dude peeing now?  It's that he has no shame whatsoever and will pee on command...even in our yard.

Yes.  As in our front yard.  Right next to the road.  Yes.  If you ever drive past my house and see Dude peeing.....I guess I should apologize in advance.  But it's actually quite funny, so at least you'll get a good laugh out of it.

The other day I was outside with Dude and Princess, raking the front lawn, doing random things to clean up after this long winter, when I look over and Dude is doing his very dramatic "pee-pee dance".  Don't deny it, you all know what this entails.  The hopping from foot to foot, crossing legs with every hop, and grabbing at the crotch.  I've done it as an adult.  Don't deny that you've had to do it too.

So, I ask him:  "Do you have to pee?"
      "Well, baby, then just go."

And go he did.  Pants down around his knees, sweatshirt hiked up around his chest, butt cheeks clenched so hard to push his little boy business out as far as possible so that he doesn't pee on himself.  Facing oncoming traffic.  And apparently this boy had to go, because his pee was going straight up into the air.  Awesome.  I was already laughing at his cuteness.  Then what happens?  Of course a truck drives by.  What do I see as I'm laughing?  The older man in the truck was laughing hysterically too.  I'm pretty sure that anyone would have gotten a good laugh out of that one.

Dudes reaction?  "Why are you laughing mama?"
"Because I love you so much baby."

He then pulled up his pants on went on his merry way.

Nevermind the awesome picture that I have of Dude peeing off of his Grams' porch.  Wrinkled butt, winter hat and jacket, and pants down around knees.  Hysterical picture.  Or what about the picture I have of when the Dude was potty training and he decided to sit on the toilet for about an hour while reading books?  That's an awesome picture.  Especially since I have one of me doing the same thing when I was potty training.

Ahhhh.  Peeing, great photo ops for everyone.

The other morning (3am to be exact) Dude crawled into bed with us, I managed to wake up fully and take him back to his own bed.  Then a little while later, I saw the bathroom light click on and heard Dude peeing in the bathroom.  My thoughts?  "He's getting so big."  My heart swelled with love.  Then he went back to bed all on his own....leaving the bathroom light on.  I said "the hell with it" and rolled over and went back to sleep myself.  Now, I'm not sure if I was dreaming at this point or not, but I swear that instead of actually going back to bed, Dude hung out in the living room, in the dark (except for the bathroom light), and was reading books to himself.  I smiled and left it alone.  Who am I to judge if he wants to read at 3am?  Then at 4am, I'm awoken again by Dude yelling at me from the bathroom informing me that he was done pooping.  I smiled, went and helped him out, thanked him profusely for going to the bathroom when he needed to despite the hour, and tucked him back into bed.

It's got my mind spinning sometimes how big he's getting.

      The funny story about Princess?

Well, occasionally we let her run around without a diaper on, to, you know, get some air on her girly business (what girl doesn't appreciate that?).  One night....as she's standing next to the coffee table (on the hardwood part of the floor!) she got this shocked look on her face and looked at me with a look that seemed to say "What!?"  I then see her shifting her feet around and looking annoyed.  Yup, she had peed all over herself...and was then standing in a huge puddle.  Poor girl.  But really, she didn't seem too concerned about it after it was all said and done.

      An Annoyance

Our cat Galore has been peeing all over our dog Ares' dog beds.  Yes, he has more than one.  Yes, she has peed on 2 out of 3 of them.

      Not cool.

When I think about it, the last time that she was doing this was when we first got Ares.  Galore and Ares do not get along.  In the least.  When Galore first started peeing on things....it was actually on our bed...on S.s side of the bed to be exact.  S was not happy.  He was ready to get rid of Galore.  We didn't obviously, because S gave her to me for our anniversary back in 2010.  We thought that she was peeing on his side of the bed because she was going into heat.  Now, I'm not so sure.  Obviously she's mad about something.  But now that I've had to wash two comforters in 2 days, I'm mad too.  Galore has been smacked on the butt.  The comforters have been hung outside and may hang there all summer, and I'm racking my brain about what to do about the situation.

At least it's not dried cat poop in my pocket.

10 Day Blog Challenge (Day 6)

Day 6 of the 10 Day Blog Challenge from Teresa over at Freebies 4 My Family!  Have you checked out this challenge yet?  Have you checked out her blog yet?  Because you should!

Day 6 - What's in your makeup bag?

(Yes, I went to go get my makeup bag, because honestly, there is no way that I would be able to remember the things that are in it...)

Maybelline Fit Me shade #115 Ivory - Foundation, Cover Stick, and Pressed Powder
Maybelline Great Lash Mascara Very Black
      CoverGirl Blush Soft Mink
2 hair clips, pink and blue
      a makeup sponge
Maybelline Line Express Eyeliner Blackened Sapphire
      Mary Kay Acne Treatment Gel
5 hair-ties, yellow, green, orange, black, purple
3 of Princess' barrettes and 2 of her hair ties
Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain & Balm Twilight
      a bobbypin
      a razor cover
      a knitting stitch marker
      a heart bellybutton ring
a vial of Long Winter Farm perfume oil Pumpkin Chip
a piece of a brown crayon

LOL!  It's funny to empty out something and see what has collected at the bottom.  Now, this is not all of the makeup I use, my makeup bag is kind of small.  I keep my eyeshadow in another place because I hardly ever use it.

Some of those smaller things...the crayon, the knitting stitch marker, etc...those ended up in my makeup bag because either Princess walked into the bathroom with it in her mouth so I put it somewhere else (my makeup bag the most conveniently reached place) or Dude walked in with it and I wanted to put it away so that it didn't end up in Princess' mouth.  Apparently my makeup bag has become something akin to my pockets without me realizing it....a catch-all.

Hope everyone is having a great day and that you're all still keeping Boston in your thoughts and celebrating with them today!
